The Shire of Waroona invites residents to a free, locally accessible event, uniting our community to reflect, respect & celebrate Australia Day. This Australia Day, the community can choose from events in Waroona, Lake Clifton, and Preston Beach.
In addition to celebrating our active, outstanding citizens of the year, we will exhibit local artwork that will proudly recognize and promote a wide variety of local creative artists. The display will showcase our diverse local landscapes, from sea to scarp, through various mediums including canvas and photography.
We will honour and celebrate a deeper connection to our country and our First Nations people and their families as we reflect, respect and celebrate our connected cultures. Our First Nations residents will participate through a Welcome to Country, a Smoking Ceremony, Flag Raising Ceremony and Indigenous art.
From 7:30am, the Waroona Lions will offer their Aussie cooked breakfast paired perfectly with coffee by Coastal Beans. There will be entertainment for the whole family with local musicians, an award-winning roaming magician and a foam party for the children to cool down with fun & laughter.
The Just Cruizin Street Machiners will have their classic cars on display throughout the morning and will be joined by our local Fire and Emergency Services, St John Ambulance Waroona, and the Waroona Police for the street parade.
Residents in Lake Clifton are invited to attend the Flag-Raising at the Lake Clifton Community Hall at 8.00am, followed by breakfast at 8.30am. Organised by the Lake Clifton-Herron Residents Association, there will also be some family-friendly activities on offer.
The Preston Beach Progress Association are inviting Preston Beach residents to a barbeque lunch from 12.00pm at the Preston Beach Community Centre. Lunch will be provided free-of-charge to attendees.
Shire President Mike Walmsley said that the Shire will continue the tradition of reflecting on our journey as Australians by celebrating our enviable way of life and building the connections that foster inclusiveness and community strength.
“A special part of these events is highlighting the committed volunteers for their contribution. I sincerely encourage all our residents to attend any of the Australia Day celebrations across the Shire.” Cr Walmsley said.
These Australia Day events are supported by the Shire of Waroona and Alcoa of Australia with assistance from the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council. For more information, please visit waroona.wa.gov.au/events.
